One of my most looked-forward to releases each year is Upper Deck SP Authentic. Chief among its many highlights is the Future Watch subset comprised of hard-signed on-card autographs of the NHL's top rookies. These cards are serial-numbered out of 999 and generally considered amongst the most desirable rookie cards available, chased by set builders, rookie card collectors and autograph hounds alike. A unique element to this set, for the first time to my knowledge Upper Deck substituted a Future Watch redemption card player after release. Card 296 was originally issued as a redemption for Anaheim Ducks defenseman Sami Vatanen. The card was redeemed, however, for his teammate goaltender John Gibson.
SET STATUS: INACTIVE PROJECT (98.3 Percent Complete with 59 of 60 Cards). The final player to complete this set is pending redemption card 290 Matt Nieto. Upper Deck reports its status as "Athlete committed to signing soon; Please be patient." It took UD three years to redeem the 276 Vladimir Tarasenko card (received July 24, 2017), so all we can do is remain patient on the Nieto. Until then, this set remains incomplete.
